Mølstertunet farm cluster

Experience old Voss

Mølstertunet is situated on a hilltop with a beautiful view of Vossavangen. It is an authentic farm cluster with sixteen small and large buildings. The buildings still stand on their original sites – nothing has been moved either to or from the farm cluster. The buildings give a genuine picture of the building style and way of living in old Voss.

Most likely the farm has been here since before the Viking Age. In 1521, Mølster consisted of two farms. The buildings belonging to these farms stand in rows, a cluster of farm buildings that were common in the communities in and around Voss. Each farm had its own dwelling house, smokehouse, loft, storage shed, barn, and firewood shed. One of the farms also had a kårstove, where the older generation could live once their heirs had taken over the farm.

As many as 30 people have lived here at one point. The two last families living here moved out in 1926 and 1927, ten years after the founding of Voss Folk Museum.
