Summer at Voss folk museum

We are open every day this summer.
Here you’ll find the preserved Mølstertunet farm cluster, and in the nearby exhibition building you can explore our exhibitions.

Here is an overview of what you can experience with us this summer:

Book Launch – July 4

On July 4, the new book Soria Moria. Utvandringa frå Voss til USA will be launched. The book is published by Fonna Forlag and written by Eirik Helleve, manager of Voss Folk Museum.

Book cover: Erik Helleve – Soria Moria. Emigration from Voss to the USA. Black and white photo of people seen from behind, looking out over the water with skyscrapers in the background.

Opening Hours

Open every day this summer, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Baking days

Every Friday in July, the Voss bygdekvinnelag demonstrates traditional baking techniques.
If the weather is nice, they will be outside; in bad weather, they will be in the “årestova” (open-hearth room) from 1735.

Exhibition: “From From Forest to Folk Art

This exhibition explores the history of tools in the pre-industrial era. Based on the collections at Voss Folk Museum, we showcase woodworking tools.

Exhibition space: White walls and dark floors, two square plywood display cases with painted interiors showing old tools. A film is projected on the wall behind the cases.

Permanent Exhibition: “A View at Voss”

This exhibition tells the story of Voss over the past 400–500 years.
Here you can see some of the most remarkable objects in our collection, play with a digital model of Vossavangen as it looked in 1930, or learn more about Voss as a skiing destination.

Guided Tours at Mølstertunet

Every hour on the hour, one of our knowledgeable guides will take you inside some of the houses at Mølstertunet farm cluster.

Mølstertunet

All the buildings at Mølstertunet remain just as they were when the two families who lived here moved out around 100 years ago. Most of the houses are open to visitors, giving you a vivid impression of how homes and farmyards in Voss looked in earlier times.

Dagestad Museum

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Dagestad Museum.
The museum tells the story of woodcarver and teacher Magnus Dagestad.
This summer, the Dagestad Museum is open every weekend in July, from 12:00–15:00.

Concerts at Mølstertunet

Folk Music Concerts in July

Monday to Friday at 12:30, 13:30, and 14:30, there will be concerts at Mølstertunet with young Hardanger fiddle player Martin Gjerdaker Haug.

The concerts are included in the admission ticket.

Concert poster shows a young Hardanger fiddle player sitting on a chair with the fiddle in his lap.

Concert with guitarist Markus Istad Lirhus

Guitarist Markus Istad Lirhus will perform concerts at Mølstertunet on July 6 and July 20, at 13:00 both days.

He recently completed a one-year music program at the University of Agder in Kristiansand. He will play some of his own songs, some cover songs, and some folk music-inspired pieces.

Café and Museum Shop

In the exhibition building, there is a simple café and museum shop.
We serve coffee, cakes, ice cream, and local handcrafted products, among other things.
The museum also has a lovely outdoor area with benches where you can sit and enjoy the sun.
